All of Broward is in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone. Municipalities review under countywide Board of Rules and Appeals amendments, and older coastal buildings often need recertification.

Monroe County is not in the HVHZ, but wind speeds are among the highest in the state and nearly all parcels are in special flood hazard areas, so flood and wind govern most reviews.
